International Best Practices in Universal Design: A Global Review is based on the
extremely successful and popular International Best Practices in Universal Design: A
comparative study, a document currently being used in over 40 countries for the design
and retrofit of the built environment. This research builds on the first study conducted in
2000.

This NEW research document contains comparisons of building codes and standards
from developing countries, those undergoing rebuilding and countries in the developed
world. Included in the comparison is the CAN/CSA B651-04 “Accessibility of the Built
Environment”, the National Building Code of Canada (NBC), the Americans with
Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) and the accessibility codes from
countries including Spain, Mexico, Sweden, Ireland, Malaysia, the Philippines, South
Africa, Singapore and Lebanon.
